I have always loved Royal Heath's great number divination, Di-Cipher Dice.  In Heath's original. the magician can almost instantly give the total of five 3-digit numbers that are randomly rolled using a set of dice (with 3-digit numbers on the sides).   By the way, if you want a nice version of Heath's original trick, search our ebay store for Human Calculator Dice!)

In this very clever variation, Doug Canning has taken Heath's principle and method, and eliminated the dice, trading them in for some laminated "shopping lists".    The benefit of this change is more than just turning the props into something you can easily hold in your wallet -- Canning also eliminates any lag-time that was needed in calculating the total with the original.  Once the spectators choose five items from the lists, the magi instantly announces the total cost of all five items.

The effect:  five shopping lists are handed out to the spectators.  Each list has six different products, along with the price of the product.   There are no duplicated prices or products.    Another spectator is given a pad and pencil, and she is asked to write down the chosen products.  The spectators with the lists each choose one product from each list.  For example, the spectators with the lists say  Diapers, Veal, Slimfast, Cookies, and Razor Blades.   They call out only the name of the product, not the price -- and the magician can be facing away; there is no need to glimpse or see the lists.    As each product name is called out, the spectator with pencil/pad writes them down.   When the last product is called out, the magician IMMEDIATELY says $29.21 and asks the recording spectator to write that at the bottom of the list.     Now the spectators call out the prices of each of the items they chose.  These are either recorded and manually added, or can be added on a calculator as they are called.   Of course the total of the five items equals $29.21, exactly as the magi said it would.

The item choices are free and the total of the five items is different each time it is performed, so the trick can be immediately repeated.  (and re-repeated, because the spectators will want to see this multiple times!)

IMPORTANT NOTE:

This trick requires that you have memorized some simple associations.  WAIT!  KEEP READING BECAUSE I WILL HELP WITH THIS.    I am providing an extra tip sheet explaining my personal method for making the necessary memorization fast and easy.   I have a lousy memory, and using the method taught on my extra instruction tip sheet, I had this trick down in about 20 minutes.   And after a 3 week vacation, when I did not perform this trick, I immediately remembered the necessary associations when I got home and picked it up again.   So don't let the memorization part scare you away  :-)       You will have to add five single digit numbers in your head, but you have lots of time to do so as the products are being called out.

As mentioned, all can be examined.   The effect can be repeated with different totals each time.   And of course, once you know the method, you could easily make this up in larger lists, to use iin a standup show.

Includes the five wallet size shopping lists, original instructions, and also the extra TMGS instructions, teaching a quick & effective way to memorize what you need.

NOTE:  does not include pad, pencil, or calculator, since you can use anyone's for this.

Brand new with extra TMGS instructions.
