About 17 years ago, Mark Jenest introduced a neat effect using a pencil, where the imprinted "No. 2" on the pencul jumped from one end to the other. Those original Jenest No. 2 pencils have not been available for many years now. Here is a very similar prop, made by Magic Makers, that does the jumping "No. 2" effect, plus an optional card revelation if you want.
A pencil is shown, and attention drawn to the black "No. 2" bubble that is printed on the pencil up near the eraser. After showing that the imprinted bubble is near the eraser on both sides of the pencil, it suddenly jumps (almost visibly) to the end near the pencil point. This is shown again on both sides, and then it jumps back to its regular place of residence (that is, up near the eraser).
If you want, the pencil is put in your pocket and a deck is introduced. Have a card selected, and then explain that the pencil is not only magical, it is psychic. Take out the pencil, calling attention again to the black "No. 2". You ask the spectator if her card was a "black two", showing her the pencil's imprint. She says yes. You then give the pencil a shake, and the imprint expands to cover the entire side of the pencil, and it reads " Number Two of Spades" (which is her card, of course)
Easy to carry in your jacket pocket all the time. Do it with, or without, the extra card revelation.
Brand new with instructions. (Includes the necessary pencils -- use your own deck of cards.)
