I like to include a few "smaller" ESP items in between more impressive mental effects, and I present these items as demonstrations of psychological principles -- that is, just showing how the human mind tends to work. This item is good for showing a simple psychological fact that when given a choice of a number between one and six, most people will select the same number. Show a folding set of symbols, six different, explaining that people cannot be influenced to pick a certain abstract symbol, but everyone can be influenced to pick a certain number between one and six. To prove this, a prediction is given to someone to hold. That spectator then chooses a number from one to six, changes her mind three times, and then if she wishes, changes it again, or stays with the number now in her head. The spectator even admits she had no idea she would choose the number she did. Naming it allowed, the symbols are truned around to show numbers on the back of each. The spectators freely chosen number is behind "a circle in a triangle." The other symbols are seen to be other shapes, but when the prediction is opened, it says "Circle and Triangle". Now you can move on to a more complicated or impressive mentalism feat, having convinced your audience that human psychology drives much of what you do.
The row of plaques folds up for easy pocket-carrying, and so it will become one of your favorite "spur of the moment - show me a trick" effects. The plaques are about 2.5 inches square.
