The Hot Rod is undeniably one of the Top 5 pocket effects of all time.     

This 1986 booklet from Robbins covers some of the better paddle move variations, and then goes on to offer different effects with the Hot Rod, like smash climax, turning the rod into a pretzel, vanishes with pulls, etc. 

Book maybe should have stopped at 39 ideas with a Hot Rod, because doing a Miser's Dream with Hot Rods is just plain silly....  But that mis-step aside, there's some interesting and useful ideas here.
