I really liked Lew Brooks book, Stack Attack, And I am one of those old-timer, old-school magicians who still thinks it is better to learn from books than DVDs. (Don't get me wrong, I enjoy magic DVDs as much as the next magician. But if I really want to think about and learn a routine, I prefer to read about it)
That said, watching Lew Brooks perform these stacked deck routines definitely enhanced my understanding of just how strong these routines are. A few that I had "passed over" when I read the book, now got a second look from me, after seeing them demo'd.
Even if you do not think you are the type of cardician who would ever perform one of those stacked deck story-type routines, you may discover that Brooks' Poetry Poker (a very funny strip poker routine, with an ending that women love), or Bughouse Poker (one for the gambling guys in the audience), or any of the other five routines he teaches, will make you a true believer in this kind of card magic.
I find Brooks' presentations to be a bit slow, but my DVD player has a feature where I can play the video at 1.4 times speed. At that speed, they're perfect for my limited patience. (To be fair to Brooks, I watch almost every magic DVD at at least 1.2 times speed!)
This DVD was originally about $30, and has recently been available for $10-$15 from some dealers. Get it here for around that price.
