Starts off looking like mentalism, then turns into magic -- I guess this is the textbook definition of "mental magic". It is a simple effect, and the method won't fool magicians, but it is a very strong effect for lay people. (And I admit, the surprise climax did catch me off guard when I first saw this trick done!)
Magi shows two four card packets of cards. One packet has four circles, one has four squares -- symbols from the familiar and famous Zenner ESP symbols. Two circles are switched with two squares in each packet, and so there should be two of each symbol in both packets now. But when the packets are shown again, the circles and squares are separated. This can be repeated. Finally, one packet DOES have two of each symbol, and the other packet has four STARS. All eight cards are examinable.
Though not described in the instructions, you could add a few additional moves (DM Count, Flushstration count, etc) and enhance the routine. But as it is routined and described in the instructions, it is still a great close-up quickie.
