There is another book test available also called the Tossed Out Book Test (from Chris Phillpott), but this one is by Steve Hollifield, and also comes with instructions for my own personal handling which is endorsed by Steve H, and which I think makes this excellent piece of mentalism even stronger. I am not familiar with Chris Philpott's version, but it costs about $300. For my money, I think that there is more than $300 of impact in this version, and it costs a LOT less!
There have been a few editions of this trick, each with a different book cover. The cover of this edition features a suspense novel called LOST. The book is nicely printed in softcover, and looks and feels like an ordinary book. But it is cleverely gimmicked to allow the following effect:
You hand it to five different spectators, and they each turn to ANY page in the book, they read the first or last paragraph of their chosen page, and remember a key image from what they have read. As the five spectators stand among the audience, you instruct them to concentrate on the image in their mind. Say that you will read their minds and if you name their image, they should sit down. You name five distinct images, and all five spectators sit down. (The rest of the spectators now stand to give you a standing ovation!)
My extra bonus routine, which is only available from TMGS, explains how to streamline the effect, to use just four spectators, and how to milk it for even stronger effect.
I have tried a LOT of book tests, and when I learned this one, it instantly went to the top of my performance repertoire list, It is ultra clean, with no added parts or processes, nothing written down, glimpsed, stolen, fished, or.... anything! Just let them look in the book, and you can name their thoughts.
Brand new with instructions plus bonus TMGS instruction sheet. Should sell for a lot more.
ALSO NOTE: TWO OTHER VERSIONS OF THE BOOK ARE NOW AVAILABLE, WITH DIFFERENT COVERS. SAME INSIDES AS THIS ONE -- SO YOU COULD OFFER SPECTATOR A CHOICE FROM UP TO THREE BOOKS, NO FORCE. (see other listings of TMGS for Tossed Out Book #1 and #3)
I like to show three different books, and let two spectators each choose one. I do a quick demo with the third book on how they should look at any paragraph, then put it away. After the two spectators have chosen an image from the book they hold, they each pass their book to another spectator -- now these two new spectators each choose a word. The routine goes on from there -- faster and even more convincingly fair. Nuff said. Buy this! and then buy all three!
