A really nicely made gimmick that allows you to do the equivalent of Marlo's Snap Change without twenty years of hard practice :-)
The spectator chooses a card (no force) and signs the face. The magician shuffles the card back into the deck, and then says he will cause it to come to the top. The top card is shown and it is not the chosen card. But visibly, in an instant, the card changes into the signed card. It is not turned facedown first -- it changes while the spectator is staring right at it. Very startling way to find a chosen card, or end an ambitious card routine.
I find that the position necessary for holding the card before the change is pretty unnatural, but it seems to go by laypeople without question. It does take a little practice to get the knack of the visual change -- the gimmick does 99% of the work for you but you have to have the feel correct, and this will take a couple hours to get the knack. (Better than a couple of years to do Marlo's Snap Change!)
Last caveat: I am right-handed, but for someunknown reason, I learned how to do card magic left-handed. So I am an unofficial leftie when doing card tricks. Fickle's gimmick can be used by left-handers, but when a leftie holds the card in position ready for the change, the card index will not be easily visible. So for this reason, I only recommend this trick to right handed cardicians. (It is possible to make the gimmick up with other card backs and I suppose with a left handed deck, but...)
