From the 1980's, this is Tannen's version of Vermyden's "automatic" Add-a-No pad. It is in perfect condition, just a couple of the papers have had some numbers written on them. But of course, the paper is replaceable as you use them.
This great mentalism utility item is best known for the effect that gives its name: Add-a-No. Four different spectators write numbers on a paper, and when the pad is given to another spectator to total them up, the total is found to match a prediction that has been in the hands of the spectator since the beginning.
But other effects are possible, and the included instructions detail routines with tic tac toe games, book tests, even an optical illusion effect.
The pad is about 9 inches by 6 inches in size. The instructions mention a "brass" plate and crackle enamel finish -- but this version of the effect is plain wood, painted black. I suspect that Tannen's cut back on the cost of materials for the item at some point (as was common for them), and (as was also common with Tannen's) they never revised the instruction sheet. This is the reason I place the item in the 1980's as the brass versions were made inthe 1960's and early 70's. By the 1990's this item was no longer in the Tannen catalog.
A great collectable and a great performance item also! Only one of these available...
