I have always loved the UF Grant "Dial X" effect, in which (unseen by you) a spectator sets an hour on a clock face, and you are able to divine the chosen hour.   Grant's item was a small close-up effect.   As simple as this effect is, it has always been appreciated by close-up audiences, and that is why Dial-X and Wonder Clock are classics of close-up mentalism.

And now there is a BIG (more than 12 inches square) version that can be done on a large stage to excellent effect.

The simple effect I mentioned before is this:  While the mental-magi's back is turned, a spectator freely sets a large clock dial to any hour, and closes the opaque lid, completely hiding the face of the clock.   The closed clock case can be minutely examined until the spectators are thoroughly convinced that there is no way to see catch even the smallest glimpse of the clock face or dial.  (Because there is not -- it is entirely concealed and is not seen by the performer until the case is opened at the end of the effect!)   Yet, in a brief instant of taking the closed case from the spectator, casually displaying it to the audience, and putting it down on his table, the mentalist knows exactly which houor the spectator chose.  Name the hour, and open the case to confirm you are correct.

Getting the secret hour happens fast -- literally in an instant, with no funny or suspicious moves.  The effect can be instantly repeated.

I likened this trick to a giant Dial X, but it is really more like a giant Wonder Clock -- the cleverly gimmicked case gives a visual cue of what hour the dial point to.  But you could examine this box for a long time before finding it, if you ever did!  (Try it before reading the instructions... just for fun).

The photos show the bold design of the clock dial, and also the closed box from top and bottom (it has four small plastic "feet").    The working requires no assistant to do anything off stage, and no electronics, batteries, etc.  Like the close-up Wonder Clock, "Telling Time" uses an ingenious but low-tech method.

This trick has not been available for about 10 years now, and back then, it sold for about $80.    It is rarely seen for sale now, because those mental magi's who got their hands on one back then tend to hang onto it and use it.   A few years ago, (the last time I saw one offered), it was selling for $100.    But I'll roll back the price on this one to what it was 10 years ago.  (What a guy!)

The prop weights 3.5 pounds, so shipping will be fairly high, but it's worth it, especially when you get it for our great TMGS price.  (Sorry, can't do anything about the shipping costs...)

The item is from ex-dealer inventory, "new-old" stock, so it is new and unused.
