There are a lot of versions of this effect, and the method is good, so most of the versions are good as well. Some use places, some use words, some use names. The flaw in this otherwise amazing mental divination is that the spectator needs to look at the other side of all the cards and tell you which one has his thought of word on it. This still results in a mystery, but the spectator has to be wondering why they had to tell you this extra piece of info -- the miracle becomes a puzzle. BUT...
This is my favorite version of the effect because there is a VERY logical reason to show the spectator the other side of the cards and have them select another word.
A word is mentally selected by the spectator from a hundred different words printed on ten business size cards. After mentally selecting a word, the cards are turned over to reveal a hundred more (diffferent) words. These words are antonyms (opposites) of the first hundred words. The spectator is told to find the antonym of his thought-of word, and concentrate on it. By concentrating on the antonym, the original word is locked into his mind even more strongly -- this is the psychological principle of Conflicting Perception Synthesis. (I just made that up, but it sounds good, doesn't it?) After the spectator thinks of the antonym word for a moment, the mentalist concentrates and names the thought of word. This can be repeated over and over.
The logical reason (asking the spectator to show the card with the antonym) makes this effect (often just a puzzling trick) a miracle again.
This is a good pocket mental mystery that is easy to do, very puzzling, and has lots of presentation possibilities.
Hard to find this one now... it has not been available for years, but I found one for you...
