From the 2008 offer from Tenyo, Fortune Donut not only has one of those quaint "japanese translated into English and sounding strange" names, but it is also a very strong piece of magic -- if you get past the fact that you need to buy replacement "donuts" after 20 performances. (NOTE: replacement donuts are not easily found anymore. This is offered as a collectible, or for use at those very special performances.) Unfortunate that replacements are hard to find now, since Fortune's donut is a real fooler.
The effect is quite cool!
The donut has pictures of different playing cards running around its edge. The spectator freely chooses one and cuts it away from the donut. Tenyo provides some goofy looking scissors, but you can use a regular pair. When the card is cut away, the donut is turned over to show only red backs and the single card on the table (that was freely chosen and cut off) is turned to show a blue back.
Very ingenious, very magical, very puzzling.
This is probably best in someone's Tenyo collection, but if you do plan to perform it, you can make 20 strong impressions when you have a big money show, (or you need to close the contract for a big money show!) You can still find this item in Japanese packaging at other online retailers for about $45, so that might serve as a refill source if you do want to perform this one.
But this is the English packaging Fortune Donut -- very hard to find, and a great addition to any Tenyo collection, or also a good performance piece, for those 20 very special shows.
CONDITION NOTE: previously owned, -- it appears to have been carefully opened, but then replaced in the package. Package shows some creases and minor tears at the corners of the plastic shell. See photo.
