At last, we magicians in the USA can do the great classic Scotch and Soda trick with three coins from our own country! One of our recently minted Golden dollars, plus a quarter and a penny!   (or a nickel can be used also)

The effect is this: The magician shows a Golden dollar and a quarter. He explains that a very important aspect of the Golden dollar is that the visually impaired can tell it apart from a quarter by touch alone. Placing the dollar and the quarter into the spectator's hand, he instructs the spectator to put his hands behind his back and by touch alone to bring forward the slightly larger Golden dollar. The spectator does so successfully, but when the quarter is brought forth, it is now a penny!   The quarter is gone!

This perfectly machined gimmicked coin set does all the work, so you can concentrate on presentation.  If you borrow the quarter to start (and do a simple switch) you can leave the spectator with a nickle, and make twenty cents on each performance.  :-)

NOTE:  the Golden dollar coin is gimmicked, but is a locking gommick, and so is examinable at the end of the effect.  The set does not come with a matching regular dollar coin, but since the gimmick is examinable, this is not really necessary.  However, a visit to a local coin store (or scan of eBay listings) will turn up regular Goden Dollars for a few bucks each.  (Just need to make sure you match the president on your gimmick!)

Scotch and Soda

An all-time favorite trick within the gimmicked coin trick universe!   Has all the necessary elements of big impact and practicality:  it uses MONEY, which people are always intrigued by, it happens in the spectators hands, which always makes magic more memorable, and the props are completely examinable at the end, so you can sit back, relax, and enjoy the adulation of your adoring audience!

Magi shows a half dollar and a Mexican centavo coin.  The centavo coin is copper colored and smaller than the half dollar.  Both coins are placed into the specator's hand, and then she is told to put her hands behind her back and mix the coins up, hiding one in each hand.  When she brings out her closed fists, the magi grabs hold of one of her fists and says "This one holds the half dollar, am I right?"   She says you are, and then opens her fist to reveal the half dollar.  (Or half the time, she says you are wrong, and she opens the other fist to reveal the half dollar.  Either way, you continue to the magical finish....)   She puts her hands behind her back again and hhides the Centavo in either hand.  When she brings her closed fists out front, the magi tells her that she can keep the half dollar if she can tell him which hand holds the centavo.  She say "it's in my right hand".  Magi says, no, its in my pocket.  He takes a centavo from his pocket and she opens her right hand to find the centavo she held is now a US quarter dollar!!

All three coins can be examined.  Good stuff!  Plus you get to hold a pretty spectator's hand.
